The Validation of Knowledge acquired through Experience created by the law on Social Modernisation of 17 January 2002 and the Implementation Decree of 24 April 2002, allow a student to be awarded a diploma based on his professional experience, in the following circumstances:
"The validation may be granted as a result of experience gained, whether continuously or not, over a cumulated period of at least three years, in salaried or non-salaried employment or voluntary activity. This experience must demonstrate either wholly or in part, that the student has the knowledge and aptitude necessary in order to be awarded the diploma applied for."

The experience submitted is examined by a specific VKE panel based on the file submitted by the candidate and on the panel's interview with him or her.
All the diplomas, including that of engineer (see description), which are registered on the National Professional Certification Register (RNCP), can be awarded via the VKE.

There is some provision for a VKE grant. Contact the education fund to which your employer contributes or your Regional Council if you are unemployed.
